Fern blocks (or tree fern slabs) are natural, fibrous bases used to grow orchids. They perfectly mimic a tree branch, providing great airflow to roots while holding enough moisture. You can easily attach plants like Dendrobium, phalanopsis,Cattleya or Vanda orchids to them with wire or string.
Why Use a Fern Block?
Airflow: The spongy texture stops orchid roots from rotting in stagnant water.
Nutrients: The organic matter gives natural food to growing roots.
Lightweight: Fern blocks are very light and perfect for hanging.
Steps to Mount:
Prep the roots: Soak the orchid in water for ten minutes to make the roots flexible. Remove old potting soil or bark from the
roots.
Add moss: Take a small handful of damp sphagnum moss. Place it directly on the face of the fern block.
Position the orchid: Place the plant on top of the moss. Make sure the base of the plant sits against the moss.
Wrap and secure: Wrap wire, twine, or fishing line tightly around the plant and the block. Do this multiple times.
Make sure the orchid does not wobble.
